On November 5th, HIROC and FM Global presented an award to Toronto East General Hospital in recognition of Risk Improvement and Ongoing Commitment to Property Loss Prevention.

“We have a great working relationship with HIROC leading our processes and the supporting inspections from FM Global,” said Betty Best, Director, Support Services, TEGH. “It isn’t just about the inspection today either – if you came by any day you could see that we’re doing the same procedures and safety precautions day-in and day-out. “We take advantage of the wonderful resources that are provided to us and it’s been very helpful.”

TEGH had been working hard with HIROC and FM Global since 2009 on making risk improvements to their entire facility. The collaboration and team effort from the three organizations helped elevate the hospital to a new level of safety.

“We know everyone has worked extremely hard and we’re delighted that the majority of the recommendations have been completed energetically by the team here at TEGH,” said Ed Corcoran, Reciprocal Operations Manager at HIROC as he addressed the TEGH team during the award ceremony. “You have a lot to be proud of.”

Their Risk Mark score of 82 is among the highest of their peers. Their diligence and persistent efforts to provide a well-protected facility, including their willingness to implement FM Global’s recommendations, were instrumental elements in reaching that milestone.

“It’s a rewarding feeling to know we are providing a safe environment for our patients and our staff,” said Clinton Hodges, Manager, Protection Services at TEGH.

Keeping the momentum going TEGH is already looking ahead to the Highly Protected Risk (HPR) status which feels even more attainable for them now.

“It’s an industry-recognized level of risk protection. We’re all striving for it and hoping to get it in the near future,” said Mamoon Ali, Account Consultant at FM Global.
