Key Responsibilities

Financial Analysis, Reporting and Budgeting

  • Preparation of financial statements and supporting schedules
  • Period-end general journal entries
  • Preparation of quarterly and annual board commentaries
  • Analyze variances between actual, budget, forecast providing insights on key drivers
  • Perform period-end financial closing procedures including the preparation of period-end journal entries, financial analysis, reconciliations, annual ASPE/ ASNPO financial statements notes disclosures
  • Assist with the preparation of annual budgets, long-term forecasts and draft the related commentary
  • Prepare reports on key performance indicators as appropriate
  • Prepare and/or review account reconciliations, including monthly and annual revenue reconciliations and revenue recognition entries
  • Responsible for the preparation of the year-end audit schedules and being the liaison for auditor requests
  • Collaborate with the internal IT team to develop and enhance management and financial reports
  • Prepare ad-hoc financial analysis to support senior management 

Accounts Payable and Tax Filing

  • Reviewing of accounts payable entries
  • Communicate with vendors and departments to troubleshoot, manage and resolve issues
  • Using the services of an external provider, coordinate the preparation and filing of the annual Income Tax return and the annual Information Return
  • Preparing and filing quarterly and annual sales tax returns

Cash Management & Banking Reconciliations 

  • Cash flow monitoring and preparation of cash forecasts to assist with working capital management
  • Review of bank transactions

Other Finance Duties 

  • Identify opportunities for process automation and improvements in financial reporting
  • Support internal and external audit processes by providing necessary financial data and analysis
  • Provide back-up where necessary in the Finance department
  • Other duties as assigned

Education, Training & Experience

  • University degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics or a related field, or comparable experience in financial industry
  • Near completion of CPA (at the PEP stage of the CPA program)
  • 5 years of relevant work experience in finance.  Experience within the insurance industry an asset
  • Strong knowledge of financial reporting standards
  • Experience in preparing monthly and annual financial statements
  • Experience in preparing annual budgets
  • Accounting systems (Dynamics GP or Business Central preferred)
  • Ability to work cross-functionally and manage multiple projects
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
  • Proficient in financial modeling, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

Working Conditions

  • Working at a computer for much of the day.
  • Hybrid working model.
  • May be required to attend after-hours functions/meetings, and occasionally work after hours
