HIROC and its Subscribers Honour National Indigenous History Month.

The month of June marks National Indigenous History Month. This is a wonderful opportunity to reflect on our role in progressing equity, diversity, and inclusion. It is crucial that we take the time to acknowledge the heritage, resilience and contributions of First Nations, Inuit and Métis Peoples.

As part of our reflections, we must recognize Canada’s painful history and the steps we can all take to listen and learn from the Indigenous community on the pathway to truth and reconciliation.

I encourage all HIROC staff and Subscribers to use this month as a steppingstone to continuously educate ourselves and honour First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples throughout the year.

It’s important to take the time to learn the cultures, the languages, and the history of this diverse community, especially as they play such a vital role in our own healthcare system.

And better yet, we should pause to ask ourselves, "what more can I do to advance DEI for the community?"

Through the commitment of education, engagement, and action, we bring ourselves one step closer to building a stronger relationship with the Indigenous community and to benefiting our country as a whole.
