The Lead, Analytics’ primary responsibility is to oversee HIROC’s Analytics operations, ensuring activities are aligned with our strategic plan and business objectives. The role will lead a team responsible for data governance, data warehousing, business intelligence and advanced analytics, and will provide operational leadership of the Analytics Strategy for HIROC.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the execution of an Analytics Strategy to deliver insights and drive decision-making.
  • Lead a team that helps address key business challenges via analytical work, from requirements specification, data gathering, analysis and model building to presentations and adoption.
  • Oversee the process for intake, prioritization and resourcing of analytics work within the organization, including new reports and dashboards and advanced analytics projects.
  • Work closely with decision-makers and stakeholders in other departments to identify, recommend, develop, deploy, and support all aspects of analytics for the organization.
  • Serve external customers with high-quality, robust, and secure business intelligence products.
  • Coach and mentor a team of data engineers and analytics specialists and external vendors and partners engaged in analytics projects.
  • Participate in the development of plans, roadmaps, and business cases regarding the acquisition of data and analytics assets and technology. 
  • Oversee data governance efforts across the company, including but not limited to data change control, data access management and data cataloguing.
  • Analyze data science trends to discover innovative and creative ways to solve business challenges.
  • Promote HIROC’s thought leadership and expertise through knowledge dissemination, including but not limited to HIROC’s website, publications, presentations, posters, abstracts, and conferences.
  • Work alongside the Privacy & Compliance Officer and Lead, Infrastructure to ensure the security and privacy of HIROC’s sensitive data and ensure business continuity.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Strong skills in planning and operationalizing complex projects and achieving results; 
  • Strong staff development, coaching and mentoring skills; 
  • An innovative and creative thinker who is open to different approaches to resolve issues; 
  • Strong familiarity with data analysis and data science tools and approaches, including descriptive, diagnostic, predictive and prescriptive techniques.
  • Exceptional analytical skills with the ability to apply principles of logic and scientific thinking to a wide range of problems; 
  • Proven leadership skills including financial planning, human resources management, organizational development and customer service; 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to clearly articulate complex ideas to a wide range of stakeholders.

Education, Training & Experience

  • To be successful in this role, you will possess a university degree preferably in Computer Science, Engineering or Information Systems as well as professional experience that includes six to eight years, working at a leadership level in developing and implementing analytics solutions. Equally relevant work experience will be considered.
  • You possess advanced technology knowledge, including current network and operating systems, hardware, protocols, and standards.
  • Experience with data modelling, integration, architecture, analysis and data science, including big data analytics, machine learning, and artificial intelligence.
  • Extensive experience with the Microsoft suite of data products and services, including but not limited to Power BI, SQL Server, SSAS Tabular Models, SSIS, SSRS and Azure SQL Databases.
  • Most importantly, you are an enthusiastic and creative thinker who is passionate about creating the safest health care system possible for Canadians.
