Safer Healthcare Now Workshops

HIROC recently helped to sponsor the Safer Healthcare Now! Passport to Safety Workshop Series, a series of seven one-day workshops and one, two hour Ontario Telehealth Network (OTN) broadcast offered across all Ontario Local Health Integration Networks (LHINs) in May and June, 2007.

The workshops were designed for organizations and teams currently enrolled in one or more of the six Safer Healthcare Now! interventions, both newly enrolled and those considering new or additional enrollment.

Specifically, attendees were key organizational contacts, improvement team leaders, improvement team members and quality improvement professionals.

The workshop objectives were:

  • To help participants understand the campaign and the six interventions
  • Teach participants how to develop and use  an Improvement Charter
  • Apply the Model for Improvement
  • Introduce participates to the data submission requirements of Safer Healthcare Now!, and how to access key campaign resources
  • Accelerate improvement through the experience of other Safer Healthcare Now! teams

Each workshop was hosted by a leading organization known to have significant success in implementing one or more of the six Safer Healthcare Now! interventions and was located where most participants could attend within an hour's drive.

Thanks to HIROC's generous use of their OTN studio, the workshop series ran in locations that we would not have been able to access otherwise. The OTN videoconference brought together fourteen unique organizations in Northeast LHIN (L13) and Northwest LHIN (L14), where geography is a particular challenge.
