The Healthcare Insurance Reciprocal of Canada (HIROC) is presenting a series of educational webinars for subscribers on topical healthcare risk management issues.

The reciprocal invites subscribers from across the country to tune in for the one-hour sessions that zero in on providing safer care, reducing risk and preventing claims.

With 11 confirmed webinars for 2012 covering topics ranging from reprocessing medical equipment to falls prevention, Arlene Kraft hopes subscribers will find the sessions helpful and relevant.

“Hopefully there’s something there for every one of our subscribers,” Kraft, HIROC’s manager of healthcare risk management, tells Axiom News.

HIROC is delivering the webinars free of charge as a value-added service for subscribers and is also providing complimentary DVD copies of the archived sessions upon request. Providing education about topical healthcare risk management issues supports the reciprocal’s vision of partnering to create the safest healthcare system.

Subscribers can register now for a Feb. 23 session from noon to 1 p.m. ET about reprocessing medical equipment. The webinar features Tanya Goldberg from Borden Ladner Gervais (BLG) and HIROC’s James Penafiel, insurance operations senior underwriter.

On March 1, subscribers can tune into a session called ‘Welcome to HIROC: The First Impression’ and learn more about the reciprocal, its services and culture from a variety of HIROC staff members.

On March 22, the reciprocal presents end-of-life issues featuring BLG’s Wendy Whelan as the speaker.

On April 19, HIROC encourages midwives to tune into a session that will cover the Governing Law and Jurisdiction Agreement. Trillium Health Centre midwife Remi Ejiwunmi will share her knowledge on the subject. HIROC's healthcare risk management supervisor Joanna Noble and Wally Yerro, supervisor of insurance operations, will also be speaking.

On May 24, subscribers can learn more about employee benefit claims.

On June 14, tune in to hear speakers from Misericordia Community Hospital in Winnipeg who will discuss a falls prevention program.

To register for the Feb. 23 webinar, log into the subscriber section on the HIROC website.
