Learn more about LHIN impact on healthcare labour relations at upcoming conference
Tuesday March 18, 2008 -- Natalie Miller
With Local Health Integration Networks (LHINs) in full swing in the province, the Ontario Hospital Association (OHA) is hosting an upcoming session to explore how the new healthcare structure could impact employee-employer relationships.
The OHA presents ‘Labour Relations in a LHINs Environment’ on Friday, May 30 at the Renaissance Toronto Hotel Downtown 1
Blue Jays Way, Toronto. The association has lined up speakers to help educate participants about the LHINs’ role in this area of healthcare.
“With the establishment of the Local Health Integration Networks, Ontario’s healthcare transformation is unique to Canada,” the OHA states in material about the event.
“Featuring a variety of leaders from the LHINs, Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care and healthcare organizations across the sector, this conference will provide insight into the labour relations challenges facing Ontario’s healthcare system as it continues to transform and evolve.”
The conference sets out to explore the following questions: What effect will this transformation have on labour relations within the healthcare sector? How will the LHINs’ recent funding authority affect labour relations? What are the labour implications of integration for hospitals, Community Care Access Centres and long-term care homes? What can we learn from regional integration in other provinces?
The conference includes case studies and speakers will discuss topics such as wage harmonization, labour adjustment plans and the competitive bidding process.
“This one-day conference will provide participants with a practical and legal overview of the current situation under the LHINs and explore the implications as we continue to move forward.”
