In support of our vision, partnering to create the safest healthcare system, HIROC partners with many healthcare organizations to support various healthcare safety initiatives.
Accreditation Canada
HIROC established a formal partnership with Accreditation Canada in 2005 to develop and implement strategies to address common high priority risk-safety issues. Accreditation Canada has recognized HIROC’s risk management tool, RMSAM™, in the Governance portion of the Qmentum standards. HIROC also participates on joint Accreditation Canada/Canadian patient Safety Institute patient safety advisory committees and roundtable meetings.

Association of Ontario Midwives
Association of Ontario Midwives (AOM) and HIROC collaborated in the development of midwifery-specific modules as part of HIROC’s risk management tool, RMSAM™. AOM and HIROC also frequently collaborate on providing educational sessions at various conferences and workshops for midwives.

Canadian Medical Equipment Protection Plan (CMEPP)
HIROC was instrumental in the formation of CMEPP and shares office space with the organization. CMEPP is a self-insured medical equipment protection program for healthcare organizations.

Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA)
The Canadian Medical Protective Association provides medical liability protection for most physicians in Canada. HIROC partners with the CMPA on healthcare safety initiatives that impact HIROC subscriber organizations and physicians.

Canadian Patient Safety Institute (CPSI)
HIROC is a voting member of the CPSI and has played a role in promoting patient safety improvement initiatives for several years. The two organizations formally signed a letter of understanding in April 2007. HIROC supports and participates in many initiatives spearheaded by CPSI, such as the adaption and implementation of the Safe Surgical Checklist in hospitals across Canada.

Institute for Safe Medication Practices Canada (ISMP Canada)
HIROC supports several projects lead by ISMP Canada, including the Canadian Pharmaceutical Bar Coding Project and the Advancing Medication Safety in Paediatrics, as well sponsoring the ISMP Canada Safety Bulletin. HIROC also supports the organization by providing back office support.

Ontario Hospital Association (OHA)
HIROC was established in 1987 as an initiative of the Ontario Hospital Association and the relationship between the two organizations remains strong. HIROC frequently participates in and sponsors OHA educational events and provide expertise to various OHA initiatives.
